Sergey Leonov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, noted that such an agency would ensure coordinated decision-making throughout the entire process, from drug development to registration and manufacturing.

The LDPR proposes creating a single state body to coordinate the development, production, and procurement of medicines in Russia. Sergey Leonov (LDPR), Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, told TASS about the proposal ahead of the LDPR-organized All-Russian Patients’ Forum.

According to Leonov, Russia remains significantly dependent on imports of medicines and pharmaceutical substances, while the domestic industry requires further technological development.

“A single state body should be designated to coordinate pharmaceutical policy and ensure coordinated decision-making throughout the entire process, from the development of a medicinal product and its experimental and clinical studies to registration, manufacturing, and procurement by the state healthcare system,” Leonov said.

He noted that such an approach would make it possible to coordinate the entire drug development and production chain and focus the industry on manufacturing medicines that are in demand and competitive.

According to the lawmaker, one of the government’s key priorities should be to support the construction of modern pharmaceutical facilities and develop domestic production of active pharmaceutical ingredients.

About the Forum

The LDPR-organized All-Russian Patients’ Forum will be held in Moscow on June 19. The event will bring together patients, doctors, lawyers, representatives of public organizations, and experts to discuss the most pressing issues facing Russian healthcare.

The key topics will include access to medical care, the provision of subsidized medicines, the protection of patients’ rights, and the development of healthcare infrastructure. Following the forum, proposals are expected to be drawn up to improve healthcare legislation.
