The share of domestically produced medicines in Russia stands at 63%, and exceeds 80% in government procurement, Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov reported at a meeting attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin devoted to the results of the December \u201cDirect Line.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe expansion of production capacity has enabled us to reach a 63% share of domestic medicines on the open market. As for the government procurement market, we cover more than 80% of the needs of the state healthcare system,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn the list of essential and vital medicines, we produce 86% of all items, and two-thirds of them can be manufactured using Russian pharmaceutical substances,\u201d the minister noted. He added that, in particular, vaccines against 11 out of 12 pathogens included in the national immunization schedule are produced domestically under a full-cycle manufacturing process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Alikhanov, work continues on the development and production of missing vaccines. With the support of the Industrial Development Fund, the company Nanolek has launched production of a human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in the Kirov Region. In the near future, with state support, the pharmaceutical manufacturer will \u201cimplement a large-scale project to produce medicines against meningococcal infection and for the prevention of chickenpox,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDomestic manufacturers supply the Ministry of Health with more than 80% of oncology drugs, including the most advanced targeted therapies\u2014medicines based on monoclonal antibodies,\u201d Alikhanov noted, citing Biocad as an example. The company has brought to market the world\u2019s first drug for the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, the minister emphasized that there is still \u201ca great deal of work ahead\u201d regarding domestic medicines for HIV and hepatitis, as well as insulin products, which account for \u201cabout half or slightly more\u201d of total government procurement. \u201cThe necessary competencies already exist, but many of these medicines are protected by patents. Once those patents expire, we will be ready to promptly launch production at Russian facilities,\u201d Alikhanov stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
