New Molecules Synthesized in Russia for Next-Generation Medicines

The compounds could help develop antimicrobial, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory drugs, according to the press service of Reshetnev University in Krasnoyarsk.

Scientists at Reshetnev University in Krasnoyarsk have synthesized ten new chemical compounds that could serve as the basis for the development of innovative medicines and materials with unique properties. In particular, these compounds may help create antimicrobial, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory drugs, the university’s press service told TASS.

“The research team at Reshetnev University has obtained ten new chemical compounds that could form the basis for developing innovative pharmaceuticals and materials with unique properties. The study was carried out at the Department of Organic Chemistry and Technology. Chemists synthesized previously unknown nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds—a class of organic substances widely used in pharmaceuticals due to their high biological activity. In the laboratory, new derivatives of quinoline, hydrazinylphthalazine, benzothiazole, pyrazole, and hydrazinyltriazole were obtained,” the press service said.

According to the university, one of the key challenges in this field has long been the lack of information about synthesis methods and the properties of such structures, which has limited their potential application. The researchers succeeded in developing effective technological approaches to creating these new molecules.

“A detailed study of the structure and reactivity of the synthesized compounds makes it possible to predict potential areas of application. We can already recommend a large number of these newly obtained substances for biological activity testing. In addition, they are promising for materials science—for example, for creating elastomer compositions with specific characteristics,” project leader Pavel Bobrov, PhD in Chemistry, told TASS.

The new compounds significantly expand the library of structures available for screening, providing medicinal chemists and pharmaceutical researchers with more opportunities to identify substances suitable for next-generation drugs.

“Nitrogen-functionalized heterocycles often demonstrate antimicrobial, anticancer, or anti-inflammatory activity, so our developments may accelerate the creation of effective medicines,” Bobrov added.

About the University

The Reshetnev Siberian State University of Science and Technology was established in 2016. The university is a leading educational and research center specializing in space technologies, satellite engineering, forestry, and chemical technologies.
